Shazammed songs

Shazam’s still a pretty cool thing, even if the novelty and fascination has worn off. It’s not the “discovery” that I love, or even the seemingly magical identification that it does, but the act of tagging and then reviewing my tags later, creating a kind of archive of songs that have caught my ear for some reason or another. I’ve always thought it would be fun to have a camera with me at all times and photograph stuff in my daily life. And, yet, I do have a camera with me at all times (in the same device with Shazam), but I don’t do that. I tag stuff on Shazam. So, I thought it would be fun — since it’s Saturday and whatever — to put together a little playlist of some of the more interesting stuff I’ve Shazammed this year, presented here for your enjoyment (it’s only 23 minutes long, fyi).

One happy accident featured here is John Dankworth’s “Theme From Modesty Blaise.” I was trying to remember the name of that one Gorillaz song (“Rock The House”), and Shazam identified the sample, which excited me greatly, because I didn’t know where it came from. So that was pretty cool.

Enjoy the mix, and feel free to tell me some of the zany stuff you’ve Shazammed.
