It’s called “God don’t make no junk” because I believe that. I know it’s a cornball t-shirt slogan, but that doesn’t make it theologically wrong.
I’ve spent the past 12 years of my life studying theology (formally). First, as an undergraduate Bible major, then as a seminary student, and now as a CPE student. I’m an ordained minister and a hospital chaplain.
During the past 12 years, I also spent a lot of time listening to music and watching TV. I like music and TV sports and books and websites and movies. You know, junk. Hence the title, “God don’t make no junk.”
Also, I think it’s a funny phrase. Furthermore, it’s featured in the lyrics of a really good Elliott Smith song.

My favorite song ever is “Sunny” by Bobby Hebb. I also like “I’ll Believe In Anything” by Wolf Parade. My ringtone is the horn blasts from TV on the Radio’s “I Was a Lover” (it was a diy project). My top two albums of all time are Pet Sounds followed by In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.
My favorite television episode is “Dogs, Dogs, Dogs” from the third season of The Andy Griffith Show. I only watch shows that are funny. I like cartoons. My favorite TV commercials of all time are those Holiday Inn ads, circa 2001, with the slacker guy living at his parents’ house. I prefer NBC’s The Office to BBC’s The Office, but I like them both.
I go to like 2 movies a year, and I cancelled my Netflix account. I like anything by Wes Anderson. I like old movies, but I don’t watch them very often. I like to quote Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
As far as reading goes, I’m all for it. I like Jonathan Safran Foer, Dave Eggers, and Larry Brown. I like non-fiction in the categories of theology, behavioral sciences, culture, and biographies. I am a streaky reader.
I enjoy following football and basketball, but I care about baseball. I like the home team, even though Seinfeld was right about rooting for laundry.
