One of my first shifts on the job, I told someone I was from Texas, and she said, "Well, we'll forgive you." It seemed so backwards!

Whoa.

The loyalty really is extreme, especially around where you live. I was in Norman once a couple years ago visiting some friends on a game weekend. Some of their friends came over and were seriously mad about my Texas plates being in the parking lot. It made them even more upset that I had once lived in Oklahoma.

Yeah, true. But I'm sure he only made me be quiet because I was trying to get him to talk about something work-related and he was afraid I was missing the song. Most of his attempts at "music education" involved cheesy jokes and (oral) pop song-artist-year quizzes and sometimes a CD on my desk with instructions to listen while I grade.

Point well-taken. I was listening to it the other day while she was asleep in the car. You think that'll give her a subconscious head-start on becoming the illest toddler ever? (Wale's flow really is mind-blowing!)

Marquee Moon was '77, and was <a href="http://lexrob.com/2007/12/03/best-albums-of-77-87-97/" rel="nofollow">#1 on my '77 list last year</a>

Whether they have any videos or not was not part of my criteria, Boris!! But after searching YouTube for five minutes, I think you may be right. Every performance of theirs I saw was from '02.

Thanks, Lex.

Was Marquee Moon 78 or 77? Can't remember. They probably didn't make any vidz anyway.

Thanks, Katy. But, you should let Lil' C listen to Wale. Maybe she'll pick up on his flow! She'd be the illest toddler ever!

I appreciate McGraw's respect for a classic, but I find his approach somewhat creepy. Besides, it's not really a "sit in silence" kinda song.

Great list with (awesome!) videos! And, yeah, the Devo video's somethin', but The Cars one reminded me that McGraw once made me come sit in his office and listen in silence to "Just What I Needed" all the way to the last note, even though I promised him that I had that album at home.
